    NATIONAL GREEN HYDROGEN MISSION

Government of India has set ambitious goals of installing 500 GW non-fossil electricity capacity by 2030, becoming an energy independent nation by 2047 and attaining Net Zero by 2070. As India continues to work towards these goals, Green Hydrogen produced from Renewable Energy (RE) has emerged as a promising solution. It is a versatile energy carrier that can replace fossil fuels in hard–to-abate sectors. As a step forward, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India has proposed budget allocation of Rs. 19,744 Cr up to 2029-2030 for National Green Hydrogen Mission that aims to make India a ‘global hub’ for using, producing and exporting green hydrogen. By the year 2030, this Mission targets to:
    > Development of green hydrogen production capacity of at least 5 MMT (Million Metric Tonne) per annum with an associated renewable energy capacity addition of about 125 GW in the country
    > Over Rs. Eight lakh crore in total investments
    > Creation of over Six lakh jobs
    > Cumulative reduction in fossil fuel imports over Rs. One lakh crore
    > Abatement of nearly 50 MMT of annual greenhouse gas emissions

Haryana can play leaders role in Green Hydrogen Mission by creating conducive policy environment in the State. Further, renewable energy required for green Hydrogen can be met from RE projects in other States for which waiver of inter-state transmission charges for 25 years has been allowed for the projects commissioned before 30th June 2030 as per Green Hydrogen Policy of the Ministry of Power. States can also exploit green hydrogen export potential.

The demand of hydrogen in Haryana has been assessed about 200 Kilo Tons per annum (KTPA) which is likely to grow up to 300 KTPA by 2030. It has been further estimated that Haryana can act as a ‘Green Hydrogen Hub’ for the northern region where demand for the same may be for about 1.3 MMTPA.

This is a new field which requires policy & vision document of the State and also road map sync with the national goals. Therefore, in order to create conducive policy environment, New and Renewable Energy Department, Haryana has drafted ‘Haryana Green Hydrogen Policy-2024’.
